WoW! That took entirely too long…but I am finally done with all of the animations for the intro cinematic for the story mode. It almost killed me, but what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger as they say.
Anyhow, I’m back to coding again, which makes me happy. Not having an artist working with me really hampers productivity, for the next project, I think I will have to partner with someone.
I’m looking at doing a patch very soon to address some simulation issues, and the dreaded editor bug some people are experiencing. I updated to the latest version of Unity, which will probably be the last update until the game is released! Once the patch is out, I will be back to building out the new content for the story, which should hopefully go faster than the creation of the cinematic did.
It’s been a bit since I’ve posted an update, so I wanted to bring everyone up to speed on things I am working on!
First off, I’ve been working on finishing the intro cinematic for the story mode. As a one-man developer, it’s taken some doing, but I am really pleased with the results. I’m going to be hiring another composer to create new music for the intro as well. I still have about a week left to do on tuning it, then I can get back to some other important areas.
Next, I’ve been looking into the strange background editor issue. I think I have a fix for this, and will be patching the game soon to hopefully resolve the issue once and for all.
I’m also looking into improving the simulation a bit. Since 0.4.4 my performance enhancements have decreased the quality of the simulation, and I will be tweaking some of them to get it to be more stable.
After this, I’ll be going back to some new level design, and adding a few remaining gameplay elements. Still hoping to finish the game by early 2014! Wish me luck!
I’m excited to announce that Curse Gaming and I have teamed up to create the official Crashtastic wiki. It’s still in it’s early phases, but I will be updating it as the game moves towards release. That being said, it is a wiki, so anyone can contribute! I would love to see it be a resource for players looking to enhance their Crashtastic experience.
I am happy to finally announce that Crashtastic has been greenlit for release on Steam! I can’t tell you how excited I am to finally know for sure that the Steam community will be able to enjoy the game I have worked on for over two years. I want to extend a thank you to everyone how voted “yes”, and for all the great feedback during this process. This game wouldn’t be what it is without your support.
I’m off for a few days of vacation next week. After I get back, I should be finally posting the 0.4.9 patch. I’ve spent a bunch of time debugging the buggy pistons, and I think I am finally satisfied with the results. Sorry for the delay, I know the patches have been a bit slow in coming.
I’m going to revisit the rotator as well for a future patch, as I am not pleased with how it was implemented in the editor. While at E3, I watched several people struggle with getting it to work. Sometimes what seems intuitive to the developer, isn’t remotely so!
Finally, I know many of you are asking about Linux support, and I do plan on supporting it. The challenge is the updater, which I just need to figure out how best to update to enable linux support. I may end up waiting till I get the game on Steam… (which I hope is soon!).
